Why We Have a Code of Conduct
At Kingston Students’ Union, we are committed to creating welcoming, inclusive, and respectful spaces both online and in person. Everyone has the right to feel safe and supported at our events, and we all share the responsibility to uphold this standard.
All attendees, speakers, hosts, and volunteers are expected to follow our Code of Conduct.
This is in place to ensure that everyone can participate in a safe, harassment-free environment. The Code will be actively enforced, and we expect full cooperation from all participants.
Our Commitment
We are dedicated to providing an experience free from harassment, discrimination, and hate of any kind. This includes but is not limited to harassment based on:
- Gender or gender identity
- Sexual orientation
- Disability or neurodiversity
- Age
- Race or ethnicity
- Body size or physical appearance
- Religion or belief (or non-belief)
- Technology preferences
- Economic background
We will not tolerate any form of harassment, including:
- Verbal comments or slurs
- Unwelcome sexual attention or imagery
- Inappropriate physical contact
- Intimidation, stalking, or following
- Harassing photography or recording
- Sustained disruption of talks or sessions
- Online harassment/bullying
Sexual language or imagery is not appropriate at any of our events, including workshops, social gatherings, or online sessions.
What Happens if the Code is Broken
Anyone who breaches this Code may be asked to leave or may be removed from the event at the discretion of the organisers and may be subject to further disciplinary. Our priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our community.
If you experience or witness any form of harassment, please report it to the event organiser immediately so action can be taken. For ongoing issues or more serious concerns:
All organisers, facilitators, and hosts are equally expected to uphold these standards. This includes avoiding the use of sexualised language, images, activities, or clothing in any part of the event.
Let us work together to ensure that KSU events remain respectful, inclusive, and enjoyable for all.
