President candidate
If elected, what are your top three priorities in the role?
"1. Strengthening Career Development & Employability: With the job market evolving rapidly due to AI and automation, students need better career preparation. I will push for more internships, placements opportunities and career workshops tailored to different industries. I will also work with the local businesses and alumni to expand networking opportunities, ensuring that students graduate with the skills and connections needed to secure jobs in their fields.
2. Improving Students Wellbeing & Mental Health Support: University life can be overwhelming, and many students struggle with mental health challenges. I will advocate for increased funding and accessibility to wellbeing services, ensuring faster access to counselling and peer support programs. Additionally I will push for better financial assistance, making hardship funds more accessible and ensuring students know where to find help when they need.
3. Enhancing Students Engagement & Academic Support: Many students, particularly commuters and underrepresented groups, struggle to engage with university life. I will work to improve participation in societies, networking events and academic workshops by making them more inclusive and accessible. I will also collaborate with university to close the attainment gap by ensuring better academic support, mentorship programs, and a curriculum that reflects the diverse student body."
Working with the other elected officers, which priority do you think you should share?
"As President of Kingston University students ' Union, one priority I would share with the other elected officers is ensuring that students voice is heard and represented across all levels of decision making at the university. Collaborating with the vice president for education, the vice President for welfare and other officers, we can work to create stronger channels for students feedback and involvement in key university decisions. This includes establishing regular forums, improving communication between the student body and university leadership, and advocating for policies that reflect the needs and concerns of students. "
How will you effectively represent and engage with your members?
"To effectively represent and engage with students, I will create open communication channels, including regular forums, drop-in sessions, and online surveys, ensuring all voices are heard. I will actively collaborate with students societies, course reps, and underrepresented groups to address key concerns. By making the students' Union more accessible and transparent, I will push for real changes based on students feedback. I will also work closely with university leadership to advocate for policies that benefit students, ensuring their needs are prioritised. Through active engagement and clear communication, I will make sure every student feels valued and represented. "
