School of Nursing Allied and Public Health Rep candidate
What do you think is the number one priority for students in your school?
The number one priority for students in the Adult Nursing program is support for academic success while managing the emotional and physical demands of the profession. Nursing is a challenging course, and for many of us, balancing intense study with clinical placements, exams, and other responsibilities can feel overwhelming. Therefore, I believe our focus should be on: Improving Placement Experience Clinical placements are an essential part of our education. I will make sure that students have a voice in the placement process, ensuring that it is organized efficiently and that students are well-prepared and supported during these experiences. Furthermore, I will advocate for fair and equal access to placement opportunities.
In conclusion, my primary goal as School Rep will be to create a supportive, inclusive, and responsive environment for all Adult Nursing students. I believe that by listening to your concerns, advocating for meaningful changes, and ensuring that your needs are met, we can foster an academic community where every student can thrive.
How would you represent students in your school?
As an international student from Nigeria, I understand the unique challenges that come with studying abroad. My aim is to be the voice that bridges the gap between the diverse student body and the faculty, ensuring that every student’s voice is heard and their concerns addressed.
Active Communication I hope to establish clear and open communication channels between students and faculty, ensuring that everyone has a direct line to express their concerns, ideas, and feedback through regular forums, either virtual or in person, where students can speak freely about their experiences, academic concerns, and suggestions.
Advocacy for Student Needs I will work to represent the specific needs of Adult Nursing students, including addressing academic pressures, workload balance, and access to resources. I will collaborate with faculty members to ensure that our curriculum remains relevant, inclusive, and supportive of all learning styles and needs.
Student Support and Well-being; Recognizing the challenges that come with being an international student, I will advocate for greater support in terms of mental health, career counseling, and peer support networks. I will work to ensure that the services available to students are accessible and culturally sensitive.
Cultural Inclusivity and Diversity As someone who has experienced studying abroad firsthand, I understand the importance of cultural inclusivity. I will strive to ensure that the needs and perspectives of international students, as well as those from various backgrounds, are always considered in faculty decisions and initiatives.
Collaboration with Other Student Representatives I will foster a collaborative relationship with other faculty representatives to ensure that student concerns across different disciplines are communicated effectively to the university’s leadership. Together, we can advocate for changes that benefit all students.
