Pets as Therapy - Come and meet Kenji!

Come by and relax with Kenji, the lovely Akita-German Shepard from Pets as Therapy!

Come by PR Campus Events Space from 2 to 4pm to meet Kenji!

As part of Disability History Month, Kingston Students’ Union is welcoming a very special guest: Kenji, a therapy dog from Pets As Therapy.

Animals have an incredible ability to calm, comfort, and connect with us. Spending time with a therapy dog can ease stress, lift mood, and create a sense of belonging - especially during December, when many students may be feeling the pressure of upcoming exams, the challenge of being away from family, or even the anticipation of returning home.

Students will have the chance to meet Kenji in a relaxed and informal environment. Whether you’re a new student adjusting to university life, someone navigating the holiday season, or simply in need of a moment of joy, Kenji can offer a little pause amongst the stress and a moment of connection and peace!

This event is open to all students for free.

Max 5 students in the room with Kenji at any given time to avoid overwhelm. Please queue outside. Dawn, Kenji's owner, will be in the room with him. Kenji is happy to be played with, stroked or engaged with. Please be respectful and kind!

Kenji Cheat Sheet:

Name: Kenji – nickname: Kenji Benji Boy

Age: 9

Breed: Akita crossed with German Shepherd

Background: Dawn adopted Kenji from Battersea Dogs Home when he was 3 years’ old. He was pre-loved, his first family were unable to keep but had clearly been well loved and trained.

How long as a PAT dog: 3 years. Main role is to visit The Royal Marsden Hospital, where he enjoys strokes from adults, children and teenage patients and their visitors. The staff also enjoy a visit from him.

Favourite things: Sniffing – a lot! Treats, being brushed, cuddly toys, going to work and travelling in the car. Oh, and sleeping!

What he doesn’t like: Walking in the rain, squirrels in the garden and fireworks

Best friend’s: A black labrador called Millie, who is also a PAT dog and Coco the dacshund/terrier cross. He also likes cats, and tries to make friends with them on his walks – the cats are not so keen!

Kenji is a very large dog, but he is extremely calm and even-tempered.
