What is Disability History Month? And how is it being celebrated here at Kingston and across London?
From November 20 to December 20, Disability History Month invites us to celebrate and act. This year’s theme, 'Disability, Life and Death', asks urgent questions about how society values disabled lives in both politics and culture.
For disabled students, this theme is particularly relevant. It shows up in the fight for accessible housing, inclusive teaching, and mental health support. A continuing cost-of-living crisis where disabled people face higher expenses and fewer safety nets suggest that we need to rethink how we value disabled lives. The national debate around the Assisted Dying Bill demands we actually centre disabled people in these considerations, rather than consider them abstract numbers.
At Kingston Students’ Union, we believe Disability History Month is about visibility and joy as much as it is about reflection. Join us in celebrating DHM 2025 through the below events, some happening across London and some here at Kingston University!
