Every October, we celebrate the rich history of the Black community. It’s a profound recognition of why diversity is a fundamental strength in our society–and in Kingston’s own student body.
This year's theme is Reclaiming Narratives, and KSU wants to play a part in shaping how we understand our past, present, and future. Therefore, throughout this month, the Union and societies have organised a series of events to celebrate the month and the culture:
- Join us every week at a different KU campus to spread your knowledge and play games.
- Dance the night away at the Jerk vs Jollof Pryzm Party
- Join the Dance Club for their first Afro-Caribbean dance class of the year!
- Get a professional headshot picture to develop your future opportunities.
- Join ACS in their famous Black Excellence Showcase
- Collaborate in the Book Club Society discussion on the book The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Daré.
- Finish the month by teaming up at KSU’s Respect the Roots Quiz Night
Ckyra: I cannot wait to showcase everything I've learnt from Black History Month this year. The theme of "reclaiming narratives" not only resonated with me, but it also helped me rediscover a part of myself I hadn't realized was there.
