At Kingston Students' Union, we believe sport should be a safe space for everyone. A space where you can show up as yourself, feel respected, and know you belong, no matter your background, identity, or who you are.
That’s why we support the Show Racism the Red Card campaign and the Rainbow Laces initiative. These campaigns aren’t just about awareness, they’re about creating real change in the spaces we share.
The Show Racism the Red Card campaign sends a clear message: racism has no place in sport. Not on the pitch, not on the sidelines, not anywhere in our community.
The Rainbow Laces campaign champions inclusion for LGBTQ+ people, ensuring no one feels they have to hide who they are to belong.
Separately, we also celebrated This Girl Can in February, encouraging more women to get active, break barriers, and feel confident in sport.
During Varsity, we put all this into action. Posters reading “Embrace Every Shade of You” and “No racism. Just sport.” weren’t just statements; they were a reflection of the environment we’re building together.
A safe, inclusive, and empowering sporting community doesn’t just happen. It’s created by the people in it. And this year, our students showed what that looks like in action. We’re proud of everyone who played, cheered, and supported each other. Varsity was a celebration of confidence, pride, and respect, a perfect example of Kingston sport at its best.
Well done to all our students for making it happen!
