President candidate

Param Satsang

If elected, what are your top three priorities in the role?

"As President, my focus is not just on student experience, but on real change that prepares us for the future. The UK is heading into a recession, and the current system does not equip students with the mindset or opportunities to thrive. My role is to challenge outdated structures, create real opportunities, and make sure students leave university stronger than they entered.

Financial Empowerment & Career Acceleration: Most students leave university with debt and no real financial knowledge. We fix this. I will push for paid internship opportunities, financial literacy workshops, and partnerships with top employers to give students direct access to high-income careers. More money, better skills, better opportunities.

Mental Resilience & Systemic Fixes: The current support systems are outdated and reactive instead of proactive. We need real mental resilience programs, access to better counseling, and a shift in how we approach student well-being. No one should feel like they are alone in their struggles—we create a system that actually helps, not just one that listens.

University Experience That Actually Matters: A degree is not enough anymore. We integrate real-world skills, entrepreneurship support, and industry networking into student life. Whether you want to work a job, start a business, or pursue something creative, this university should be the launchpad, not just a waiting room for employment."

Working with the other elected officers, which priority do you think you should share?

"Financial Empowerment & Career Acceleration One of the most pressing concerns for students today is financial stability and career readiness. With rising living costs and increasing economic uncertainty, it is essential that we equip students with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities to secure high-quality employment and financial security. By prioritizing career acceleration and financial empowerment, we can help students transition smoothly into post-university life with confidence and stability. This initiative ensures that every student, regardless of background, has the resources and opportunities needed to build a secure and successful future. Together, we can make this a reality."

How will you effectively represent and engage with your members?

"As President, I will ensure direct, transparent, and action-driven representation for all students.

Accessibility – Regular drop-in sessions, digital engagement, and clear communication channels to keep students connected.

Transparency – Frequent updates on key issues, accountability in decision-making, and collaboration with student groups.

Action – Turning student concerns into solutions, working directly with university leadership, and pushing for meaningful policy changes.

This role is about delivering real impact, not just engagement. Every student deserves a voice, and I will ensure that voice leads to results. We don’t just talk—we execute."
