Academic reps

Academic reps make sure students are represented and that they have a say in your education.

Levels of Representation

Your Academic Reps create change at four levels:

  • Course Level: Addressing issues and changes you want to see in your course.
  • School Level: Driving changes that support your entire school.
  • Faculty Level: Implementing changes that benefit your whole faculty.
  • University Level: Led by Student Officers, making changes that impact all students at Kingston.

How do I get involved?

You can sign up to become a Course Rep from 22nd September 2025, by just filling in this quick form and then attending one of our trainings!

Become a Course Rep!

School Community Rep, Faculty Rep, and Student Officer roles are elected positions.

Find out about the upcoming Election!

If you don't want to become a Rep but still have ideas or feedback that you want being raised, that's perfectly okay! We have an Ideas Page for big things or you can reach out to your Rep directly.

Tell us your Idea!

Look out for a update coming in September where you'll be able to find your Rep straight from the KSU website.

Types of Academic Reps

Course Reps

  • Who They Are: The backbone of our student body at Kingston, representing the academic interests of their coursemates.
  • What They Do: Listen to your feedback, ideas, and concerns about your course. They meet with Course Leaders and school reps to discuss and address these issues.
  • How to Become one: Volunteer near the start of the academic year or speak to us at representation@kingston.ac.uk.

School Community Reps

  • Who They Are: Representatives for the academic interests of all students in their school.
  • What They Do: Communicate with Course Reps to identify trends and address issues at school level. They meet with the Head of School and give feedback to Course Reps.
  • How to become one: You must get elected by the students.

Faculty Reps

  • Who They Are: The bridge between school and faculty levels, working closely with School Reps and under the Sabbatical Officers.
  • What They Do: Identify and act on trends across schools, addressing issues at faculty level.
  • How to become one: You must be elected by the students.

Student (Sabbatical) Officers

  • Who They Are: Elected by students for one academic year to improve the student experience at Kingston.
  • What They Do: Lead the way in making university-wide changes that benefit all students.
  • How to become one: You must be elected by the students.

Want to be a Rep?

Registration Form

You first need to tell us that you're interested in being a Course Rep: sign up to be a Course Rep here!

Training and Support

After completing the form, you will be invited to one Course Rep training session. Make sure you come along to this, or let us know if you need to reschedule.

You officially become a Course Rep only upon completion of training.

Getting Started

Start collecting feedback from your coursemates following the guidance we share in training. Particular things to look out for and engage with are (1) Kingston, Have Your Say! Week and (2) Student Voice Committees.

Showing your impact

The best campaigners, activists, and representatives know the value in communicating everything they are doing for the people they represent. We strongly recommend you:

  1. Write a blog post for the KSU website, outlining what the feedback you received and what you've been able to achieve.
  2. Asking lecturers to give you time to update coursemates on what was discussed in meetings with university staff.
  3. Keeping a log of every piece of feedback you receive and where that feedback has been shared.
  4. Keep communicating with us - engaging with your Student Officers or the Student Voice team.
