Welcome to the Mechanical Engineering Society
The Mechanical Engineering Society (MES) is a student-led community open to all students, not only those studying engineering. Whether you want to strengthen your academic knowledge, develop practical skills such as CAD and prototyping, or simply be part of a supportive group, MES has something for you.
Our Objectives
- Help students build a stronger understanding of their taught modules.
- Provide opportunities to develop practical skills such as CAD, sketching, prototyping and design.
- Offer career insights through guest speakers and networking with professionals.
- Encourage members to enhance their CVs by engaging with lecturers, projects and skill-building opportunities.
- Run voluntary projects so that members can learn at their own pace, whether course-related or purely for enjoyment.
- Create a friendly, inclusive community where students can support one another.
How We Do This
- Peer-led revision sessions with shared notes, worksheets and resources.
- Workshops to practise and strengthen engineering and creative skills.
- Networking opportunities with guest speakers and fellow students.
- Competitions and challenges to test problem-solving and teamwork.
- Social events where members can meet new people and celebrate achievements together.
Socials & Community
At MES, we believe engineering is more than academic work alone; it is also about people working together. Our community side includes:
- Interactive competitions and team challenges with prizes.
- Informal socials where members can relax and connect.
- Collaborative projects for those who enjoy working on creative ideas.
- End of term events to bring everyone together.
Why Join Us?
By joining MES, you will gain more than academic support. You will develop skills, confidence and friendships that last beyond university. You will be part of a community where students help one another to grow, to explore new ideas and to enjoy the journey together.
Whether you are an aspiring engineer, a creative problem-solver, or simply curious to learn something new, the Mechanical Engineering Society is your space to explore, create and connect.
