In Jesus' day, eating a meal meant an invitation to friendship, but Jesus ate with the outcasts of society, the hated and the hateful. What's that all about? Come along to CU and find out over a meal with friends
Whether you call yourself a Christian or not at all, these weekly sessions are tailored and open so that all students can come and gain something valuable. As a Christian Union we're kicking off the term going through a series called 'Meals with Jesus' where we will be exploring the Gospel accounts of Jesus' life, focusing on some of the meals that he shared with people, why it was significant and how it impacts us today as students.
The Bible begins and ends with meals. God's first words to human beings was an invitation to eat and Jesus' first recorded miracle was at a wedding feast. Most of the accounts of Jesus' life detail him either at a meal, leaving a meal or going to a meal. Food is clearly an important theme in the Bible and we are going to read through Luke's Gospel to uncover why and see how we can apply what we learn to our time at university.
This week we're looking at why Jesus ate with the hated and the hateful of his day. Come along to share a meal with fellow students, play some games, build friendships and discover the man who claimed to be the Living God.
